He has treated and internationally published the first case report of acute left subclavian artery thrombosis-a rare presentation of COVID. He has created a lot of public awareness about COVID through media in and around Kolhapur.

HISTORICAL SURGERY
A team of doctors led by Cardiologist Dr. Akshay Bafna from Kolhapur's Chhatrapati Pramila Raje (CPR) civil hospital performed Angioplasty on a 60 year old mucormycosis patient and this team created history in the field of CPR. Treatments for both heart disease and mucormycosis are considered extremely risky. It is the first incident at a government hospital in the Maharashtra state which performs this difficult surgery.
CRITICAL SURGERY
A successful surgery was performed on a 4-month-old girl who had a hole in her heart, that was causing pure blood to mix with impure blood. Keeping the patient's age in mind, the laparoscopic method was used to perform the surgery instead of open- heart surgery. The team of doctors was successful in closing the hole with the help of an occluder device. This was the first of this kind of surgery performed in Kolhapur.
